Too Many Folders in the Thumbnails Pane - Desktop

Use this article when ROES displays too many image folders in the thumbnails pane and the user needs to close them quickly.

Common symptom

The thumbnails pane contains many open image folders, and closing each folder one at a time would take too long.

Overview

ROES can display multiple folders in the thumbnails pane. When too many folders are open, use the keyboard shortcut below to close them all at once. To help prevent the issue from recurring, turn off Search Enclosed Folders in the ROES Preferences area.

Symptoms

The thumbnails pane shows too many folders.
Folders are separated in the thumbnails pane and would need to be closed individually.
ROES appears to be searching through enclosed/subfolders and loading more folders than expected.
The user wants to clear the thumbnails pane quickly without restarting ROES.

Before You Begin

Make sure ROES is open and the thumbnails pane is visible.
Identify the left-most folder in the thumbnails pane.
Use the correct modifier key for the operating system: ALT on Windows or OPT on Mac.

Solution

Find the left-most folder

In the thumbnails pane, locate the first folder listed on the far left.

Hold the modifier key

Hold ALT on Windows, or OPT on Mac.

Click the X on the left-most folder

While holding the modifier key, click the X on the left-most folder. ROES should close all folders in the thumbnails pane at once.

Prevention Tip

To help prevent too many folders from opening again, go to the Home pane, open Preferences, and uncheck Search Enclosed Folders.

Expected Result

All open folders in the thumbnails pane should close at once. With Search Enclosed Folders unchecked, ROES should be less likely to open large numbers of folders automatically in the future.
