Product: ROESWebStart Category: Install / Windows Audience: Customer / Support Article ID: 17
Common symptom
During ROESWebStart installation, Windows reports this error:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'awt.dll' is denied

Cause

The installer cannot write or replace one of the cached ROESWebStart files in the Windows SWROES program-data folder.

ProgramData Is Hidden

ProgramData is a hidden Windows folder. To open it quickly, use Run or the Windows search field and enter:

%PROGRAMDATA%

Fix Steps

1

Close ROESWebStart

Close ROESWebStart and any ROES installer windows before deleting cached files.

2

Open the SWROES folder

Open this folder:

C:\ProgramData\SWROES
3

Delete the contents of SWROES

Delete the contents of the SWROES folder.

4

Launch or reinstall ROES

After deleting the SWROES contents, launch ROES from the desktop shortcut, or download and run launch.msi again to reinstall.

Expected Result

After the cached SWROES files are removed, ROESWebStart should be able to recreate the needed files and complete the launch or installation.

Escalation Notes

  • Confirm the error specifically references awt.dll.
  • Confirm all ROESWebStart and installer windows were closed before deleting SWROES contents.
  • Confirm the customer deleted the contents of C:\ProgramData\SWROES, not just the visible shortcut or installer file.
  • If the error continues, check whether antivirus or Windows permissions are blocking file replacement in ProgramData.
