Product: ROES Client / ROES WebStart Category: Launch / Windows Audience: Customer / Support Article ID: 28
Common symptom
ROES WebStart fails on a Windows computer because the system cannot overwrite the ROES WebStart startup log.

Overview

This issue can usually be corrected by fully removing the installed ROES application and cached ROES program data, then installing a fresh copy from the lab’s launch page.

Before You Begin

These steps remove the local ROES installation and cached ROES program data on Windows. Make sure ROES is closed before starting.

Fix Steps

1

Uninstall the ROES application

Open Control Panel > Programs and Features, then uninstall the ROES application.

2

Confirm the ROES folder was removed

The uninstall should remove the ROES folder from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ROES
3

Open the hidden ProgramData folder

The ProgramData folder is hidden by default. Click or right-click the Windows Start button, choose Run, or enter this in the search field:

%PROGRAMDATA%

This opens the ProgramData folder.

4

Delete the SWROES folder

Delete the SWROES folder from:

C:\ProgramData\SWROES
5

Download a fresh installer

Open the lab’s default ROES index page and download a fresh launch.msi installer.

6

Install and relaunch ROES

Run the fresh launch.msi installer, install ROES, and confirm ROES launches correctly.

Expected Result

After the old ROES installation and SWROES cached data are removed, the fresh launch.msi install should recreate the needed files and ROES WebStart should launch normally.

Escalation Notes

  • Confirm ROES was removed from Programs and Features.
  • Confirm the SWROES folder was deleted from ProgramData.
  • Confirm the customer downloaded a fresh launch.msi from the lab’s current launch page.
  • If launch still fails, collect the exact error text and any ROES WebStart startup log details.
